Cómo obtener tus antecedentes del FBI (Identity History Summary)
Para tu radicación o trámite de DNI en Migraciones de Argentina te van a pedir el certificado de antecedentes penales del FBI de Estados Unidos (el famoso “FBI RAP sheet” o Identity History Summary). Esta guía te explica, paso a paso y con los enlaces exactos, cómo sacarlo por la vía electrónica (resultados en tan poco como 24 a 48 horas).
💡 Importante: La opción electrónica con huellas digitales se hace en una oficina de USPS dentro de Estados Unidos. Si ya estás en Argentina, vas a tener que enviar una tarjeta de huellas por correo (es más lento). Si todavía estás en EE. UU. o vas de viaje, aprovechá para hacerlo allá.
Paso 1 — Inicia tu solicitud
Entrá a la página oficial del FBI: 👉 https://www.edo.cjis.gov/#/do-info
Ingresá tu correo electrónico y enviá el formulario.
Paso 2 — Revisa tu correo por el PIN
Vas a recibir un email de Criminal Justice Information Services <edo@services.fbi.gov> con un PIN y un enlace de acceso. Hacé clic en “Click here to access your request” o iniciá sesión con el PIN.
⚠️ El enlace y el PIN son personales. No los compartas con nadie.
Paso 3 — Acepta el aviso legal
Te va a aparecer un disclaimer / Privacy Act. Leelo y aceptá para continuar.
Paso 4 — Completa tus datos personales
Llená tu información (nombre, dirección, etc.). Cuando llegues a estas preguntas, para Migraciones de Argentina lo recomendado es:
- ¿Incluir tu número de Seguro Social (SSN)? → No (Argentina no lo necesita)
- ¿Incluir tu fecha de nacimiento (DOB)? → Sí (Argentina sí la necesita)
- ¿Recibir notificaciones de estado? → Sí, por correo electrónico
Paso 5 — Elige el envío electrónico de huellas
En “How would you like to submit your fingerprint card?” elegí:
➡️ Electronic Submission via Third-Party (USPS)
Al seleccionar esta opción, el FBI comparte tu nombre, email, código postal y número de orden con USPS para registrarte. Vas a recibir un email de confirmación con un código de barras que necesitás para la cita.
Llevá a la oficina de correo uno de estos documentos con foto:
- Licencia de conducir emitida por un estado
- Pasaporte o tarjeta de pasaporte de EE. UU.
- Identificación de servicios uniformados (militar)
- Identificación estatal de no conductor
Paso 6 — Paga
El sistema te redirige al pago, que acepta tarjeta de crédito o PayPal.
- Tarifa del FBI: ~USD $18 (sujeta a cambios)
- Tarifa de USPS: ~USD $50 que se paga aparte, en la oficina de correo, al momento de tomar las huellas.
Paso 7 — Después del pago: registro y cita en USPS
Al pagar recibís un email de confirmación del FBI con tu número de orden y un enlace personalizado de “USPS Registration” (registro en USPS). Con eso:
- Pre-registrate usando el enlace de “USPS Registration” que viene en ese email. Es obligatorio registrarte antes de ir. Te pedirá tu nombre y apellido, correo electrónico y número de orden (el número de orden aparece en el mismo email). Nota: a veces el sistema te redirige a la página de registro apenas terminás el pago; si no, usá el enlace del email.
- Durante el registro vas a agendar una cita con fecha y hora en la oficina que elijas. No es por orden de llegada: tenés que reservar un turno, así que elegí el día y horario que te quede bien.
- Presentate en la oficina de USPS el día y la hora de tu cita con una copia del email de confirmación y tu documento con foto.
- El personal escanea tus huellas de forma digital (sin tinta) y las envía electrónicamente al FBI.
📨 El enlace de registro de USPS es personal y no es público: solo llega en tu email de confirmación después de pagar.
Paso 8 — Recibe tu resultado
El FBI te envía por correo electrónico (y/o lo descargás desde el portal eDO) tu Identity History Summary en PDF, normalmente en 1 a 3 días hábiles, muchas veces el mismo día o al día siguiente.
🇦🇷 ¡Importante para usarlo en Argentina!
El PDF del FBI no se acepta tal cual en Migraciones. Faltan dos pasos clave:
- Apostilla (Apostilla de La Haya): el certificado del FBI debe ser apostillado por el Departamento de Estado de EE. UU. (Office of Authentications, Washington D.C.). Sin la apostilla, no es válido en Argentina. 👉 Te recomendamos usar fbiapostilleservices.com: les enviás la copia digital y en aproximadamente dos semanas recibís la copia física ya apostillada.
- Traducción pública: una vez en Argentina, hacé traducir el documento por un traductor público matriculado y legalizá la traducción en el Colegio de Traductores.
📅 Vigencia: Migraciones suele aceptar el certificado solo si es reciente (por lo general no mayor a 3 meses / 90 días). Sacalo cerca de cuando vayas a presentar el trámite y confirmá el requisito vigente.

How to get your FBI background check (Identity History Summary)
For your residency or DNI process at Argentine Immigration (Migraciones), you’ll be asked for the U.S. FBI criminal background check (the famous “FBI RAP sheet” or Identity History Summary). This guide walks you through it, step by step with the exact links, using the electronic route (results in as little as 24 to 48 hours).
💡 Important: The electronic fingerprinting option is done at a USPS post office inside the United States. If you’re already in Argentina, you’d have to mail in a fingerprint card (much slower). If you’re still in the U.S. or traveling there, take advantage and do it on the spot.
Step 1 — Start your request
Go to the official FBI site: 👉 https://www.edo.cjis.gov/#/do-info
Enter your email address and submit the form.
Step 2 — Check your email for the PIN
You’ll get an email from Criminal Justice Information Services <edo@services.fbi.gov> with a PIN and an access link. Click “Click here to access your request” or log in with the PIN.
⚠️ The link and PIN are personal. Don’t share them with anyone.
Step 3 — Accept the disclaimer
A disclaimer / Privacy Act notice will appear. Read it and accept to continue.
Step 4 — Fill out your personal info
Enter your details (name, address, etc.). When you reach these questions, for Argentine Immigration the recommended answers are:
- Include your Social Security Number (SSN)? → No (Argentina doesn’t need it)
- Include your date of birth (DOB)? → Yes (Argentina does need it)
- Receive status notifications? → Yes, via E-mail
Step 5 — Choose electronic fingerprint submission
Under “How would you like to submit your fingerprint card?” choose:

With this option, the FBI shares your name, email, ZIP code, and order number with USPS to register you. You’ll receive a confirmation email with a barcode that you need for the appointment.
Bring one of these photo IDs to the post office:
- State-issued driver’s license
- U.S. Passport or U.S. Passport Card
- Uniformed Services Identification Card
- State-issued non-driver’s ID card
Step 6 — Pay
The system redirects you to payment, which accepts credit card or PayPal.
- FBI fee: ~USD $18 (subject to change)
- USPS fee: ~USD $50, paid separately at the post office when your fingerprints are taken.
Step 7 — After payment: USPS registration and appointment
Once you pay, you receive a confirmation email from the FBI with your order number and a personalized “USPS Registration” link. With that:
- Pre-register using the “USPS Registration” link in that email. Registration is required before you go. It asks for your first and last name, email address, and order number (the order number is in that same email). Note: sometimes the system redirects you to the registration page right after payment; if not, use the link in the email.
- During registration you’ll book an appointment with a specific date and time at the location you choose. It’s not walk-in — you must reserve a time slot, so pick the day and time that works for you.
- Go to the USPS location on your scheduled date and time with a copy of your confirmation email and your photo ID.
- Staff scan your fingerprints digitally (ink-free) and submit them electronically to the FBI.
📨 The USPS registration link is personal and not public — it only arrives in your confirmation email after you pay.
Step 8 — Receive your result
The FBI emails you (and/or you download from the eDO portal) your Identity History Summary as a PDF, usually within 1 to 3 business days — often the same day or the next.
🇦🇷 Important for using it in Argentina!
The FBI PDF is not accepted as-is by Migraciones. Two key steps remain:
- Apostille (Hague Apostille): the FBI certificate must be apostilled by the U.S. Department of State (Office of Authentications, Washington D.C.). Without the apostille, it isn’t valid in Argentina. 👉 We recommend using fbiapostilleservices.com: send them the digital copy and in about two weeks you’ll receive the hard copy already apostilled.
- Official translation: once in Argentina, have the document translated by a certified public translator (traductor público matriculado) and legalize the translation at the Colegio de Traductores.
📅 Validity: Migraciones usually accepts the certificate only if it’s recent (generally no older than 3 months / 90 days). Get it close to when you’ll submit your paperwork, and confirm the current requirement.
